Memories Of An Unforgettable Summer

With the unpredictable torrential rains constantly battering people‚Äôs daily lives this time of the year, the slightest peek of the sun is such a welcome respite for everyone. As for this writer, the rains only make me want to go back to where I spent a perfect summer, a place where time seem to have stood still, an oasis for someone who is used to the hustle and bustle of city life, a place of refuge for the wandering soul. I’m talking about Batanes.

Before coming to this magnificent place, I’ve already heard so many beautiful things about it. That’s why when opportunity presented itself, I didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation from the Batanes Cultural Travel Agency (BCTA). And so together with three other media guests, our small group flew to smallest province in the country in the northern frontier of the Philippines.

Our scheduled flight was quite early at 5:50 in the morning via Sky Jet Airlines of Joel Mendoza, son-in-law of the province’s former Gov. Telesforo Castillejos who now serves as the BCTA director. The former governor graciously welcomed our party and told us quite a lot of interesting stories.
